There will continually be new features going in to the FoG games but we've taken the decision to make most of them free upgrades. We could force you to buy the army packs to get the new features but most of them will be free to anyone who has the core game. We feel it is more important to support the community, but it seems we're being hammered for not taking these free upgrades and putting them in to Storm of Arrows! Ohh well...
It takes a vast amount of work to create these army packs. Each figure has to be painted by hand in a custom way to make the photography work at best quality. We've had to invest in very expensive camera equipment to get the best out of it. The there is the painstaking task of photographing all the completed images and processing them in 12 rotations. Add in to this the work to get the army builder data ready and the features specific to the period that are required. Throw in the development and maintenance of a server which currently has 500 games at any one time going on and more every day and you can see it is a major undertaking. By the time Storm of Arrows releases we will have nearly 500 different unit graphics in game.
FoG and RoR are loss leaders. The only way for us to recoup the investment is on the army packs. We could have charged more for the initial versions but then you'd be complaining about that instead
The prices are not going to change in the near future but there is no obligation to pick up the army packs - you can enjoy just one or even just the basic game if you choose! We'll continue to support the game and the PBEM server for everyone, whether you have the expansions or not.
We think they are more than good value. As mentioned above, it is less than the cost of a meal out, or an evening at the cinema. You have to decide if you think you'll get more out of the army pack![]()
